      <image:caption>Ph.D. in Philosophy - University of Oregon (2002-2008) B.A. in Philosophy, B.A. in Comparative Literature - University of Michigan (1998-2002) Focused on Phenomenology, Critical Theory, History of Philosophy - dissertation was essentially a genealogy of the concept of freedom. Commenced a permanent philosophical engagement with popular culture with feet firmly planted in the streets.  And in the club. Lived &amp; studied in Germany at the Heinrich-Heine Universität in Düsseldorf and the Frei Universität in Berlin.  Speaks slightly rusty, but nearly fluent German.  Same goes for Spanish. Taught full-time and part-time at a number of Universities including Pacific University, Pacific Northwest College of Art, University of Oregon and University of Portland.  Was nominated three times for a teacher of the year award, once snuck out a victory. Refined a capacity to communicate effectively with 18-22 year olds about complex philosophical ideas by speaking the language of popular culture with fluency.  Has published articles on topics including Critical Theory and Punk Rock - and Post-Structuralism and Remix Culture. His 2008 essay published n the Journal of Speculative Philosophy entitled “The Tyranny of Authenticity” is held up as the benchmark for theoretical writing on punk rock culture - and is currently taught at well over 25 universities in the United States.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Drums in Too Many Hardcore Bands (1996-2004) DJ in Doc Adam (1998-Present) Audio Engineer for Fresh Selects (2010-Present) Commenced DJing in 1998 upon realization that drums couldn’t go in dorm rooms - and to fulfill youthful obsession inspired by too many hours of Yo! MTV Raps.  Won any number of regional turntablism battles as DJ Sequence of the mighty Unfadeables Crew. Has served as a resident DJ at clubs and parties around the Pacific Northwest.  Currently holds residencies at The Woods and Rhino Room (Seattle), White Owl Social Club, Holocene, Fortune, Tube (Portland) while maintaining a steady stream of gigs at hotspots around the US.  Served as the sole local resident at seminal Portland parties such as Massive and Hot Mess. Refined the art of DJing in club settings with 500+ pop music fans - and getting them to dance to Gang Of Four album cuts.  Has a national reputation for being able to sell music to crowds that other DJs would consider impossible to play in a nightclub setting. Spends approximately 20 hours per week forecasting and researching the musical landscape via scouring the internet and communicating with DJs around the world with direct access to regional trends, emerging styles, and niche genres. Twice invited to compete at Redbull Thre3style, placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively.  Has worked as a go-to DJ for Red Bull, Nike, Scion, Macy’s and more. Mixed and Mastered all releases from Fresh Selects including Low Leaf’s Akaashalay, Sir’s Seven Sundays and Imani Omari’s High Loops &amp; Higher Loops - a track from which Kendrick Lamar used in his recent Grammy performance. Curates an email list with over one thousand subscribing DJs around the world who receive original productions, remixes and highly-prized DJ edits.  His tracks are played frequently by DJs ranging from Jazzy Jeff to Diplo.  Performs at his best in the short form setting of Twitter and other social media with thousands of followers and hundreds of retweets per day.  Has cultivated a follower base who looks to him as a tastemaker and commentator on all things ranging from music to foreign policy.</image:caption>

His education &amp; research focused on critical theory &amp; mass culture, specifically concerning aesthetically-defined subcultures and the establishment of identity. My decade-plus spent teaching undergraduates at public Universities, private colleges and art schools gifted me exceptional research skills, finely-tuned critical thinking abilities, and unique rhetorical chops. My years in the world of music - from squats in Copenhagen to clubs in Las Vegas - have made me highly skilled at reading rooms and understanding how to communicate with people from all walks of life. I am also a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and spent about 7 years as a competitive amateur boxer. So I know how to fight through difficulty and solve problems in real time.       <image:caption>Amateur Boxer (1997-2002) Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (2003-Present) Had a 22-7 record as an Amateur boxer while a member of the University of Michigan NCAA Boxing team.  Cultivated a relentless work ethic and preternatural pain tolerance. Suffered humiliating defeat in the semi-finals of the 2002 Michigan Golden Gloves tournament as a Light Heavyweight, having been knocked unconscious but somehow remaining upright. Took up Brazilian Jiu Jitsu on account of suffering ten too many concussions in his failed boxing career and stuck to it like glue. In 2015, earned his Brown Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  Also won gold at Northwest session of the North American Grappling Association in the No Gi Expert division at 167 lbs.   Spent the past year as the lead No Gi submission grappling instructor at Praxis Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Seattle, WA.  Currently teaches intro to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at Nemesis Jiu Jitsu in Portland.</image:caption>
